A brief comment of my works
Born in Kobe, up to the mountain or down to the sea within 20 minutes on foot; I was grown up in such environment and spent plenty of time to play in nature. On the other hand, my father who paint pictures often took me to the museums. Then I was naturally interested in the works from the realistic paintings to the abstract ones or the three dimensional ones. And I started to make oil paintings since my age of lower secondary school.
When I was in my high school, I was much influenced by Klee, Munch or the American art I watched at the World Exposition Osaka. In my art university, I was enchanted by Stella, abstract expressionism or Gutai group for a while to find out my own way or chance of my expression.
I felt a kind of a natural threat to see the crushed houses at the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and afterword I appreciated the vitality of the trees filled of life power when I toured in Australia. I understand that experience lead me to draw the energetic trees as the materials at present. That is the foundation to express fun or beauty of the curved trees, a energy of life.
Recently I make collage works with old trees in Yakushima, Okinawa and other mountain area as a material, keeping a space by a direct drawing of my fingers with some half-transparent pigments. And I tried to express a natural energy, myth and so on.
Now I make the basement like Action Painting to obtain an unexpected power, so that I successfully paint old trees.
Furthermore I piled up another layer on the basement with half-transparent pigments mixed by medium so I intend to make an interesting effect that the reflection of mist or light, the stir of twigs or leaves would appear and fade out before and after. A kind of raw feeling of materials would be floating, shinning, moving and resonating, so that the viewer could visit into my space of paintings. I arrange the character of each painting by the materials of medium and the touch of fingers.
A lot of “Something Special” , invisible and unheard in the ancient forest, would make complicated relations each other. I believe, for us standing there, they may let our human sensibility be active and amplify the power of our “life”.
